Over the past year we have been working with undergraduate admissions and other areas on campus to develop electronic offer letters in PeopleSoft.
Why switch to Electronic offers?
Applicants will receive their offer letter faster Currently SGPS sends offer letters to departments through intercampus mail programs then mail the letters to the students normally to the address in Peoplesoft. Electronic offers will eliminate mailing time. Surveys of applicants indicate that the first offer has a great impact. As more and more schools in Ontario are moving towards electronic offers it is important for us to do so as well to remain competitive.
Environmental Impact From June 1 2009 - June 1, 2010 SGPS produced an estimated 3695 offer letters. Using an average of 1.5 sheets of paper per letter, that adds up to 5542 sheets of paper and 3695 envelopes that can be saved annually by switching to electronic offers.
How it works
Applicants are able to view their letter in student centre. The letter can be found in their application grid.
The application grid is available to students up until the first day of the term that they have been offered admission for. Students have the ability to print or save their letters.
One of the most exciting things about the development of electronic offers is the ability to add information based on the program the student is being offer admission to. So if your program has information you give to all of your students we could include this as a separate page in the offer.
