Alongside the commitment to excellence in graduate education, the mandate of the School of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies also encompasses services for postdoctoral scholars. One of the missions of the School of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies is to support Faculties and programs in attracting high quality postdoctoral scholars, provide innovative services and excellent support to all postdoctoral scholars. Western benefits in many ways from the research, presence and activities of postdoctoral scholars. In return, we have the responsibility to support our postdoctoral scholars with adequate compensation, a supportive infrastructure and training conditions, appropriate institutional recognition and mechanisms for advancing their careers.
Postdoctoral scholars require both assistance and support from faculty and administrators to ensure a positive postdoctoral experience. The Postdoctoral Services Coordinator aims to develop an active culture across Western ensuring the equitable treatment of postdoctoral scholars while fostering a productive climate for their training. If we set a high standard and move forward efficiently and responsibly, postdoctoral policies set by Western have the potential to have a significant impact on the postdoctoral population and will be looked at nationwide as an example of best-practices thus furthering our institutional mandate of being a national leader in research.
