Mandatory Training for Graduate Students | Fall Term 2026
All new graduate students at Western must complete two mandatory training components during their first term: the Academic Integrity Module and the Gender-Based and Sexual Violence (GBSV) Prevention Education: Supporting Safer Professional Practice Supporting Safer Professional Practice training.
Both requirements must be completed by the end of your first term. Students who do not complete both trainings will not be eligible to progress beyond the first term of their graduate program.
The Academic Integrity Module introduces the principles and resources that support responsible research, writing, publishing, teaching, and learning at Western. It includes a Knowledge Assessment followed by a series of short case studies. You can make as many attempts as needed, but you must complete the entire module. Access it through the Graduate Student Web Services Portal using your Western Student ID. Please note: If you completed the module during a previous Western graduate degree, you must complete it again for your new program.
The Gender-Based and Sexual Violence (GBSV) Prevention Education: Supporting Safer Professional Practice Supporting Safer Professional Practice training is a live, two-hour Zoom session. This small-group, skills-based training is designed for graduate students working as students, teaching assistants, research assistants, lab workers, and emerging researchers. We highly recommend that you complete this requirement as early as possible before there are other demands on your time.
