Having fun in graduate school is often a foreign concept to graduate students. But you can’t have an all work and no play attitude here. Having fun is an integral component to thriving in graduate school.
Be sure to carve out time to enjoy yourself, try new experiences, and meet new people. There are many opportunities for you to have fun and meet friends on campus and in the London community.
Department Graduate Student Associations
Many graduate departments have a designated Graduate Student Association run by graduate students within the department. These associations often plan academic and social events for graduate students within their department. Get involved with your GSA, or help start a GSA by contacting the Society of Graduate Students (email@example.com). To get involved with your GSA, check your Department website for information, or contact your Graduate Administrative Assistant.
Society of Graduate Students (SOGS)
SOGS’ Orientation and Social Committee (OSC) and International Graduate Student Issues Committee (IGSIC) run social events for graduate students throughout the year, beginning with SOGS Orientation in the Fall. Many of these events, including Board Game Night (third Wednesday of every month @ 7pm) occur at the Grad Club, a campus pub/restaurant owned by SOGS. Stay informed with the SOGS Monthly Newsletter, SOGS Facebook page, and SOGS Twitter.
The Grad Club
The Grad Club is located in the basement of Middlesex College (the building with the clock tower). Each week, the Grad Club hosts themed events. Tuesday Trivia Nights, our own Rick McGhie Thursdays, and various live performances. Like the Grad Club on Facebook to stay informed on upcoming events.
SGPS Monthly Events
Every month, SGPS hosts an event in the International & Graduate Affairs Building (IGAB). These events are free and are open to all graduate students. They often include refreshments and snacks! Stay informed about upcoming SGPS events through their newsletter: The Wire.
