A Message for Students and Applicants from Iran

The Western University community is deeply concerned about the current situation in Iran, and the impact on our current students and applicants. Although this situation is beyond our control, we will work with you to ensure your concerns are addressed to the best of our ability.

The School of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies (SGPS) is implementing several actions to try to mitigate the impact of the ongoing situation in Iran.

As the majority of our graduate programs have application deadlines in February for admission for the Fall term, our current priority is to focus on students scheduled to start their program in January.  If the situation in Iran does not improve, we will work with our programs to extend application deadlines as required.

  • As our top priority, we are working with our graduate programs to accommodate Iranian students who have been offered admission to start their program in January.
  • For incoming students who may be facing challenges making tuition deposits or payments, we are asking programs to waive the requirement for tuition deposits and will work with the Office of the Registrar to waive late fees. We are focussing on those students expected to start in January, and we will extend this as necessary to subsequent terms.
  • For incoming students who may be facing challenges getting official transcripts for their previous degrees, we are delaying this requirement until transcripts can be obtained.
  • We are working with Western International and Student Experience to ensure that our current students who may be experiencing stress and/or anxiety related to the situation in Iran are aware of the many resources that are available to help. We invite current students to access these resources here:

We will continue to monitor this situation, and we will continue to work with our current Iranian students and applicants as more information becomes available.
