Having fun in graduate school is often a foreign concept to graduate students. But you can’t have an "all work and no play" attitude here. Having fun is an integral component to thriving in graduate school.

Be sure to carve out time to enjoy yourself, try new experiences, and meet new people. There are many opportunities for you to have fun and meet friends on campus and in the London community.

Graduate Student Events

The WIRE
The SGPS blog, The WIRE, is a one-stop online destination for upcoming deadlines, current events, innovative training, and more to help you navigate the many exciting opportunities available to you as a Western graduate student.

Society of Graduate Students (SOGS)
SOGS’ Orientation and Social Committee (OSC) and International Graduate Student Issues Committee (IGSIC) run social events for graduate students throughout the year, beginning with SOGS Orientation in the Fall. Many of these events, including Board Game Night (third Wednesday of every month @ 7pm) occur at the Grad Club, a campus pub/restaurant owned by SOGS. Graduate Student Associations
Many graduate departments have a designated Graduate Student Association run by graduate students within the department. These associations often plan academic and social events for graduate students within their department. Get involved with your GSA, or help start a GSA by contacting the Society of Graduate Students (executive@sogs.ca). To get involved with your GSA, check your Department website for information, or contact your Graduate Administrative Assistant.

The Grad Club
The Grad Club is located in the basement of Middlesex College (the building with the clock tower). Each week, the Grad Club hosts themed events. Tuesday Trivia Nights, our own Rick McGhie Thursdays, and various live performances. Like the Grad Club on Facebook to stay informed on upcoming events.

 

Campus Events

Intramural Sports
Western runs an Intramural Sports league, with a ride range of activities and levels (competitive or recreational) to choose from. It is open to all Western students.

Western Events Calendar
Explore a variety of events taking place across campus from to choose from film screenings and live performances, to art exhibitions and trivia nights, there are an endless amount of things to do at Western.

 

City of London Events

Downtown London
There is so much to explore in London’s downtown. Arguably the most unique neighbourhood in the city, downtown is known for its unique culture. No where else in the city can you find green space, one of a kind retail, amazing restaurants, and entertainment venues on the same block.

Tourism London
If you’re looking to move beyond the downtown London area, there are a number of other adventures waiting for you. There are over 200 parks to visit, breweries to tour, bike trails to ride, museums to visit, and stores in which to shop. Get to know London during your time here!
