Graduate Student Assistant (GSA)

Graduate Student Assistants (GSAs) provide valuable paid employment opportunities for graduate students to undertake duties and deliverables that are not related to the student's own research or scholarly activity. These responsibilities may include research-related support, clerical, or administrative tasks.

A GSA is a formal employment contract between a registered graduate student and the employer for completing specific tasks or deliverables. These responsibilities are clearly distinct from those of a Graduate Teaching Assistant.

GSA Information

Review eligibility requirements, compensation and payment information, and where to find information and support for your GSA appointment.

The appointment is not transferable to another program.

GSA appointments are paid through Western Human Resources and can be paid either weekly or monthly.

Where to Find Information About This Funding

Once issued a GSA, graduate students receive a contract via email. Additionally, GSA appointments are outlined in the student's Mercury funding plan, provided annually through their Graduate Student Web Services Portal.
