INFORMATION FOR SUMMER 2020 APPLICANTS
For new graduate students starting in May, you may begin your graduate program through distance learning, and from outside of Canada, even if your study permit application has not been processed yet. This exception is for the summer 2020 term only, as all classes at Western have been moved online. Should in-person classes resume in September, you would be required to provide the School of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies (SGPS) with a valid study permit before you would be permitted to enroll in any fall term courses.
Please note that you cannot work in Canada (e.g. Graduate Teaching Assistantship) without a STUDY PERMIT OR WORK PERMIT.
If you received an offer of admission for the summer 2020 term, and wish to start your graduate studies, please contact your graduate program directly. If you receive your study permit during the summer term, please email a copy to firstname.lastname@example.org.

Providing Official Transcripts
We understand that the current situation with COVID-19 has made it either difficult or impossible to obtain official transcripts. It has also made it difficult for our office to process these documents in a timely manner.
In response, SGPS has extended the deadline for students starting in the summer term (May 2020) to provide an official transcript. The new deadline for submission is July 20, 2020. SGPS will continue to monitor the situation, and we will extend this new deadline as required. If you have already sent us your transcript(s), we ask for your patience. As the University has moved to an essential services model, we are receiving mail weekly rather than daily. We are working to process documents as quickly as possible, and ask that you check your Student Center account for updates. Your registration will not be delayed during document processing.
Please note: An increased number of colleges and universities are providing electronic transcripts. During this time, SGPS will accept electronic transcripts as official transcripts if they are sent from the institution’s Registrar’s Office. Please send electronic transcripts to firstname.lastname@example.org.
