The Canadian Graduate and Professional Student Survey (CGPSS), which is administered every three years, is the largest graduate student survey of its kind in Canada, and is designed to provide universities with information regarding the quality of their graduate programs as assessed by their own graduate students.
Western has participated in each administration of the CGPSS, starting with the pilot project in 2005. For this year, graduate students at approximately 50 universities across Canada will take part. The results will generate a national understanding of students’ views about their graduate education.
Graduate student responses are important. A high survey response rate provides a more representative picture of our graduate population, and helps all of us understand what we’re good at and where we can improve. Graduate students who complete the survey will be eligible for one of three $1,000 cash prizes.
As an added incentive, we are offering funds earmarked for student-related programming. The three graduate programs with the highest response rate will be given a cash prize to contribute to the support of graduate student events or students’ travel costs to attend conferences, workshops, or other academic events.
- Programs with less than 40 students are eligible to receive $3,000.
- Programs between 41 and 110 students are eligible to receive $4,000.
- Programs greater than 111 students are eligible to receive $5,000.
The CGPSS Survey will launch on Monday, February 3, 2025 and will be open until Friday, February 28, 2025.
Graduate students will receive an email from grad-survey@uwo.ca. Those who do not complete the survey after the launch email will receive a series of reminders throughout the survey period until they complete the survey or unsubscribe.
- Monday, February 3: survey launch.
- Tuesday, February 11: first email reminder.
- Tuesday, February 18: second email reminder.
- Monday, February 24: third email reminder.
- Thursday, February 27: final email reminder.

The survey is confidential. It will take approximately 25 minutes to complete, and can be saved and completed in more than one sitting. The survey is also intended for graduate degree students only (not diploma, exchange or visiting students).
Emails sent to students will include the following:
- A personalized link to the survey.
- Participation in this study is voluntary.
- Students may refuse to participate or withdraw at any time.
- If students do not wish to respond to particular questions, they can skip over them.
- If students do not wish to participate, they can choose to unsubscribe. (Unsubscribing will stop all further reminders for students).
- Only aggregate response data will be reported and shared with the graduate community.
