Master of Physician Assistant Studies (MPAS)
The Master of Physician Assistant Studies (MPAS) is a two-year (six-term) professional graduate program that prepares students to become competent physician assistants capable of providing quality care across a wide variety of health care settings, while under the supervision of a physician.
The program emphasizes advanced education in medical foundations, clinical skills, professional competencies, interprofessional collaboration, and PA- relevant research, enabling graduates to become competent and compassionate Physician Assistants (PAs). The program is hosted by the Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry.

English Language Proficiency
Applicants whose first language is not English must furnish evidence of their proficiency in the use of the English language by a satisfactory achievement within the last two years in one of the following:
- The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). iBT (internet-Based Test):
- For tests taken before January 21, 2026, Western requires a minimum overall score of 86, with no individual section score below 20. Some programs may require a higher minimum and/or specific band scores. Western’s TOEFL ID is 0984.
- For tests taken on or after January 21, 2026, Western requires a minimum overall score of 4.5, with no individual section score below 4. Some programs may require a higher minimum and/or specific band scores. Western’s TOEFL ID is 0984.
- The International English Language Testing Service (IELTS Academic). The minimum acceptable score is 7 out of 9. The IELTS is offered in 6 test centres in the US and 3 in Canada.
- The Canadian Academic English Language Assessment (CAEL Assessment). The minimum acceptable score is 60. The CAEL Assessment is offered in several countries throughout the world as well as Canada.
- Fanshawe College’s ESL Program. The requirement is graduation from Level 10, English for Academic Purposes, with a minimum 80% in all components.
Students who are required to present evidence of proficiency in English must make their own arrangements to write the TOEFL, IELTS, or CAEL and to have the official results sent directly to the School of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies by the testing agency.
